Spyderco byrd Gooney Folding Knife 3.44in Plain Edge Gray G-10

Description

The Spyderco byrd Gooney is a distinctive folding utility knife designed for everyday cutting jobs where control, reach and an effective slicing edge matter. Designed by Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser, its unconventional blade brings together elements associated with sheepfoot, hawkbill and Reverse S profiles. The resulting shape provides a long, gently curved cutting path with a hooked forward section that can help engage materials during practical tasks such as opening packaging, breaking down cardboard, trimming cordage and handling other routine work around the shop, camp or property. This plain-edge version uses a 3.44-inch blade made from 9Cr14MoV stainless steel. A full-flat grind creates efficient cutting geometry without adding unnecessary bulk, while the 2.92-inch sharpened edge offers a useful working surface in a compact folding format. The knife measures 7.71 inches overall when open and closes to 4.34 inches for pocket carry. Its linerless handle is fitted with gray, peel-ply-textured G-10 scales that provide a secure gripping surface and complement the knife’s functional design. A back-lock mechanism supports the blade during use and keeps operation straightforward. Carry can be configured to suit different users and preferences through the four-position pocket clip, which supports left- or right-side placement as well as tip-up or tip-down orientation. A generously sized lanyard hole at the end of the handle also provides an attachment point for a cord, fob or safety line. Weighing 3.7 ounces, the Gooney balances substantial cutting capability with a practical size for daily use. Its unusual blade geometry, ambidextrous carry options and textured gray handle make it a versatile choice for users seeking a folding knife that stands apart from conventional drop-point and clip-point designs.
